Some of you might know that I am now officially beginning ANOTHER rebuild since I have many issues with my ~25-30K rebuild. here:[ http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=950377 ] Well when I first decided to tackle this problem one question I asked to forum members was if the heads (TT) could be pulled in the car or not? Many people said no way, although some said feasible, but not worth it. Two key things I've realized from being a member of this forum for a few years are: (1) a lot of people are not as knowledgeable as they seem or present themselves to be (but at least they try to help). (2) When in doubt about most technical things that are Z related.....ask GregD. Honestly, I don't really come on this forum and talk (positive or negative) about vendors nor do I try and post for non-constructive reasons. For these reasons I use to only hang in the TECH sec, but have recently ventured over to the GEN side since there is so much traffic here. After seeing all of the garbage that goes on with vendors and all, you come to realize who you should do business with and who you should not. Who can go to for advice and who is a d$ck head. I must say that after the past few days I can honestly say GregD is the man! Now that I look back in time, any time I have had a problem with something I have been able to pick up the phone and talk to Greg or Seb and they would give me feed back. Never mattered how long it took. Didn't matter if it was Greg or Seb...they always spent the time. Now some might say well they should since its customer service, but the thing is I've only purchased a few things directly from SpecialtyZ over the years. They also didn't always know who I was. The reason I decided to write this post is due to my catastrophe. I called GregD and asked him to view my posted pics on TT.net. This is after I had already called him and Seb about the feasibility of the heads being pulled in the car and other tech questions. Anyways, he does look at them while I'm on the phone with him and starts giving me his opinion on what happened and what can be done. Now, this is all happening with me on the east coast during his business day. He basically tells me I need to rebuild, why the catastrophe happened and what are the pro's and con's to various approaches. At this time he also informs me that in his opinion, I will need a new 530 turbo and goes into why that is. I said to him that I was told by JWT that I would have to buy the whole turbo since they can't get the CHRA from Garret ... blah blah. Without a blink of an eye Greg says that I should let him talk to Jim because if he were to do anyone a favor in resolving this it going to be someone Jim knows and trusts. At this point I was like "wow".....Here is a fellow Z enthusiast/business man who offers his time to help me resolve an issue that he will be getting nothing out of. Anyways, I talk to GregD today and he had called Jim about the issue. As I suspected Jim said that Garret will not sell him just the CHRA, but that maybe in the future they will since there are a lot of these turbos now. Well, as Greg is telling me this I have already prepared myself to purchase a whole new turbo. Little did I expect however for Greg to say to me “since I know this is a crappy situation and all I'll just let you have the turbo for what I pay for it...". I couldn't tell you how appreciative I was to hear this! It’s rare that you find someone to extend them selves in this manner let alone someone that’s in a business that could easily profit from the situation. In my eyes Greg went way above and beyond what I expected in his dealings with me. It is this type of person that I try and model my own business after, because it’s not always about making every penny you can, at any expense. It is practices like SpecialtyZ (Greg and Seb) that make you take a step back and re-evaluate how you personally treat people in this world. In my eyes there is no better operation in the Z community than Specialty Z. If I was on the west coast I would let no other touch my car and from now on if I can get it through GregD, I will even if it costs a little more. Thanks for reading.
