Message of times over the last few years someone would mention to me that they thought that the 2 main brake lights were not working on my 94TT. The middle brake light would work but not the other two (4 bulbs actually, 2 bulbs per side). But when I would go check all would be working fine.

It was mentioned to me again on July 4th and I was able to confirm that there was a problem. I was able to track it down to a bad solder joint on the connector/PC board in the brake light sensor. This sensor is located next to the drivers side brake light bulb fixture and it about 4" long, 2" wide and 1" thick and kind of an off-green color. It has an 8 pin connector attached to it. The circuit board can be easily removed from the plastic housing and repaired (I reflowed all of the solder joints that hold the 8 pin connector to the PC board). The problem seems to be fixed now.

Just a FYI in case you have a problem where only the 3rd brake light is working and you don't have a bulb check light showing up on the dash....might want to check out that sensor!
