| So I was pleased to bring a beautiful Z home to roost and promptly placed it into the hands of Specialty Z for inspection and maintenance for wear items. SO far: Four new tires to replace the 5 year old tires that looked A-Ok treadwise but had aged and separated for nifty blowouts $$$ (no big deal, this happens, quite undetectable unless you know when the tires were made) Replace worn cam gears (i believe) $$$$ ($475 for each x2, ouch plus labor). Not something you can really inspect. Replace six puck, add RPS flywheel $$$$ (Knew about) Discover that although GT25 ball bearing turbos are on the car, stock oil lines are in place; oil seals in the turbos are likely shot and the element in place for the boost controller is so clogged that it is useless. Gotta pull the engine to remove turbos to get at the lines and install properly restricted lines $$$$$ (Big huge enormous surprise) Compression may also be iffy, but what the heck, if the engine is out of the car, what's a rebuild, right???$$$$$ (Waiting to hear on this, had this checked so I'll be mighty suspicious of the original tester if it comes up wrong) All this on a car with a shortblock rebuild, and new everything, done in 06/02 (by a very reputable shop too) with about 6k miles on it since. I did my best to check this car out, even from 3000 miles away, but what can you do. Looks like I will be riding the bus for the rest of the year. Didn't expect to need $6k in cash reserves for servicing the Z I paid a handsome price for. I'll just put on my dumba$$ cap now :-) Gotta share the bad as well as the good right?
