| Pete Conguindi of Pensacola, FL brought his Z to me this weekend to resolve a rather severe hesitation/poor idle condition, water injection installation, and complete dyno-tuning. Last night while going through all of my 6 P's and pre-dyno inspection, a few minor boost leaks were found, it had NA plugs in it, good compression, good fuel pressure, proper base timing, etc etc. Took care of the boost leaks and replaced the plugs with 6B-11Bs. Still had a very rough idle. This car has a built engine, 555cc injectors, Sport500s, Xtreme dual intake. So I pulled the filters and cleaned them thoroughly, still rough idle. MAS voltage reading a little higher than it should, which is the opposite of what I expected. I inspected the injectors for their cap color: purple. *scratching head* So for kicks, I put a 370cc (stock injector) program, dual intake into the ECU. Car idled perfectly and ran without any hesitation. *scratching head, going bald* So we took the car up to the dyno shop to see what the A/F results were. I loaded the 555cc dual intake program. The 1st pull was made at ~12psi, but I had to let out of the pull at 4500RPM as the A/F was perilously lean at ~15.5:1! I then loaded the 370cc dual intake program and the A/F came down to a smooth 11.8:1. We scrapped the dyno session and went home. Pete called Nate Henson to fill him in on our session and to my suprise, Nate mentions to Pete that the new Nissan OEM 370cc injectors now come with purple caps also; just like the 555cc injectors. Pete purchased the injectors, almost new, from a tt.net member who apparently got them from someone else. Bad situation, but Pete will be contacting this individual to try and get his money back - but it is now 6 months later since he purchased them for this new build. To add to this situation, Andy Turpen, one of my ZEM users, has been trying to get his car tuned out, but has been having big problems with getting enough fuel into the engine. In a dyno session he did several months ago with the ZEM, he was adding as much as 80% enrichment (about 30% more than needed) and the car was only generating ~12.5:1 A/F ratio at ~450RWHP. I had questioned that his injectors were really 550cc injectors back when I saw those results.. To add to this, last night I was contacted by one of my customers who has purchased an AshSPEC ECU from me not too long ago and dyno'd his 555cc equipped TT and has had similar results. He has gone through everything and replaced a lot of items trying to fix this problem. Problems always seem to come in batches of three or more, and I have now seen 3 cases of very similar results on TT's with "555cc" injectors. I am trying to verify the validity of the claim that the new 370cc OEM injectors are now coming with purple caps. If this is not the case, I will be removing these injectors from Pete's car and sending them off to have them flowtested. At this point, it is quite clear to me that they are only flowing ~370cc and not 555cc worth of fuel but for the small fee of having them tested, I will do that if need be. Any input on this is greatly appreciated!
