When writing you a ticket, the meter maid doesn't have to walk to the rear of your car. The meter is toward the front of your car, the VIN is showing through the windshield, and BAM! Your plate is on the front of the car. Lazy mofo's. That, and oh yeah, it helps them get more accurate readings for their radar guns and lasers. Flat and reflective surfaces have better readings than do curved surfaces. With radar, they just aim and the "waves" bounce right off your plate. With laser, they have been trained to aim at your front plate. It confuses them when you don't have a front plate.
