I loaded the software onto my NEW IBM Thinkpad, and have been unable to establish contact between the cpu and my Z's ECMs. As you know, the nProbe comes with a "Null modem" cable which links the nProbe unit itself with your PC/PDA. Well, the 'new' laptop has a female serial port, not the male style of yesteryear (which would have taken a direct connection with the nProbe). The ends of the Null model cable are both females, one to hook to the nProbe itslelf, and the other to interface with the PC/PDA. I went to the local computer store to purchase a cable to link the two (I thought I could buy one with female 9-pins on each side), and the rep said there is no such thing, plus some other babble about a serial port versus... ??? Anyway, I purchased a $40 cable which has the 9-pin male on one side with USB on the other. The rep warned me that the software may not function with this type of interconnect. Well, he was right. Any tips on how to make it work? Thanks, SS
