Try to ask him WHATS up with the exhaust and then why he hasn't fixed it/have him show you whats wrong. Then if you can, knock the price down, this assuming a mechanic okays the car. Look through the FAQs, you can find more nick nacks to watch out for, there are plenty of things that wear down on cars thats are gaining age.
