I have a Porter Cable random orbital polisher and some Menzerna polish of various strengths. I use that if the paint is a bit dull or if I have a lot of swirl marks. I have yet to find a wax, including the Zaino and NXT, that does a good job "covering up" the swirl marks. I use the clay bar if the paint doesn't feel smooth. When you run your hand over the paint, it should feel as smooth as glass. If it feels like there are little particles stuck on the paint, then you need to claybar it. Polishing and claybar should be done when necessary, regardless of what wax you use in the end. For extra shine on a black car, several people recommend putting a layer of good carnauba wax on top of the polymer waxes like Zaino or NXT. The carnauba wax supposedly has a "warmer" shine than the polymers, but the carnauba only lasts a few weeks before it is worn away.
