:The VG was just a better choice given Nissan's objectives. The VG family had been tested extensively with it's use in the Z31 starting in '84. After seeing the engine bay of a Cedric, I'm glad Nissan used the VG30DETT. Its dimensions allowed Nissan to design a nose that could retain the great body lines of the Z32.
