Message It has to do with oversteer and understeer. Because understeer is generally seen as safer handling characteristics, staggered wheel sizes induce understeer on higher-power rear-wheel-drive cars. The induced understeer makes the vehicle safer to operate on the cornering extremes. Front-wheel-drive cars are inherently oversteerers, so those cars are not staggered.
