I took my 4+ TT out tonight and did some dragging with some friends. Ran against a '03 Z06 corvette, 3 runs. The first run, he jumped out about 1/2 a car length off the line, as I didn't get the greatest start. In second we stayed even, and through third and fourth he gained about another 1/2 a car, combined. The second time we ran, we were dead even off the line, and I fell back a tad when I fried the tires as max boost hit at 5500 rpm (15 psi) I quickly shifted to second and proceeded to spin striaight to 8000 rpm as soon as boost came back on, so I backed off slightly to hook it back up, skipped the tires through the rest of the top of second, and shifted into third, where the car spun a little again. It just refused to hook up that run. The third and last run, however, I got a slightly better leap off the line, and oddly enough didn't hit but 14 pounds of boost (probably heat soak at this point in the night), so I didn't spin so badly at the top of first and none in second or third. I pulled away to about 2 car lengths at 140. Then, I ran an ecplise turbo running a Giant Front mount intercooler, and 26 psi on a 16G turbo. Pretty quick for a 4 banger, but I put about 15-20 cars on him to 100. Maybe more...he wasn't anywhere near. I have no trouble keeping up with the Z06 on highway pulls, and in the drag, I just need more traction to win, not power. The Z06 runs a 12.1 quarter stock, and 190 top end. Assuming that both drivers are of fairly equal skill (which they are) what kind of power should I be making? The Z06 is about 400 lbs lighter than my Z. It's 405 at the crank, and about 360-370 at the wheels. Should I be able to keep up this well with only 15 psi?
