I got one on ebay and flew the redeye to NY and drove back 3000 miles. It was a long way, but I felt better doing the inspection than waiting and worrying. All these miles definitely checked out the engine when I came back although the tires were badly worn and should have been replaced before my drive back. You could split the difference and fly there, inspect the car and drive it to the transport.
