And it is faster than an NA (which I traded in (a 91 2+2) for the GT in 97). If it has the optional 3.23 gears it will beat an NA.....2.73 gears likely not.
My 97 hooks up just fine with the live rear axle...just need to know how to use the clutch.
96-97 GT's have 215 hp...98's have 225 because of a supposed ecu recalibration that year. The heads are what make these particular year cars slow...they just don't flow well. A 96-98 with the 99 and later "PI -"Performance improved" heads is faster than a 99-2004 stock GT (mind you I think the head swap also requires use of super unleaded afterwards to prevent detonation). When my GT needs a rebuild I'm at 168K miles) I'll be going to the PI heads.
