to the contacts that the battery hooks up to. Connect the other end of the aligator clips to a battery charger. I did this with an old drill that the battery went out, but I needed to finish up on a project, and couldn't go buy another one. I left it on 12V, and it worked fine. Not sure how the longevity of it would've been had I not trashed it... You could also snip the clips, and solder the wires in for a more permanent approach...
