| As many of you know, I was quoted about $600 to get this done, so I took it upon myself to build my own frame and do it my way. To give you an idea of how HUGE this thing is, there is a CD placed by it in one of the picts. It is a solid oak frame with charcoal stain + polyurethane (the stain matches the room it's going in, so i didn't opt for the lighter color of natural stain). I picked up the glass today and it fits perfect (and is HEAVY!) and it's not installed in the picts.
The matting (which I still have to choose) will be 2" on all sides except the bottom (5" on bottom) to as to leave room for the "NISSAN FAIRLADY Z TWIN TURBO" chrome stickers and the three uncut keys (which will have ovals around them in the matting)...my pict just shows my regular Z titanium key, not my uncut one (I keep it in my safe until it's ready LOL).
Now, I need your opinions...
1.) Should I put the tt.net decal on it too? The color is chrome but looks identical to the other decals. 2.) What color do you think would best fit the frame/photo for the matting? (I was thinking just plain black, but also maybe a white or maybe a maroon like the background of the photo)...if I use the maroon, the decals won't work well. It's going in a room with the color of the frame (charcoal stained oak) with a tan colored wall and black leather furniture if it makes a difference. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. This is a work in progress and all I need to finish it is the matting now. This has taken MANY MANY MANY hours to build this frame and to make it perfect. I now have a greater respect for those who make these frames as it's not as easy as it looks, or as simple. I've spent about $150 on materials and special tools needed thus far. Much cheaper than the original $600 (because it is oversized surcharge on EVERYTHING due to the size.)
Picts: The decals, you can somewhat see them though the applicator sheets...(my Siamese kitty says hi too!) The pictures really don't do this frame justice. I'm very pleased with the results and I'm glad I haven't rushed it (it's taken about 3-4 months whenver I have some free time and felt like working on it)
