Message The Mazda platform (of the MX6) was around since late 1987 as 1988 models. Ford bought Mazda in 1989 and the first ford probe was in 1989 as well (no 1988 model). The probe was based off the MX6/626 because it was something already in existance. The 2nd gen's (93-97) are the same chassis, differeny body parts. Both fords (one with a mazda name).
