You're right in that yes, once you put money into a car you're likely to never see it again. However, a huge amount of people understand this and that is the COST of having fun, driving fast and driving what you want. It's not about investment to most of us. You can easily state that the same holds true for any modification but let's be realistic here. There's a difference between a turbo upgrade at $10k and spending $10k so you can fit a wider tire on the back of your Z. Even so, you're harping on just one part of what I said, the "lost money" comment or "investment" as you put it. That's just one part of the equation and not even the biggest one. It's a stupid decision no matter how you slice it for all but the smallest group of people.
