Message Hey, I know everyone here including myself is a Z fanatic, but what do you guys honestly think about a 3000GT VR4? It's a pretty fast car, and it's 4-wheel drive. Are there a lot of mods for it? Can you get 450-500hp out of it as easy as modding out a Z? I'm gonna get a car this summer, and the VR4 is the only competitor I see to getting the TT Z I've always wanted.

I was in your situation about a year and a half ago.
It was the 300ZX TT or the 3000GT VR-4. I decided on
the 300ZX because it was the car that I really truly
wanted. The 3000GT is nice, but it wasn't what I really
wanted. I wanted a Z. So now I have one and I've been
very happy. But, maybe I would have been happy with
a 3000GT too. Who knows.

I doubt on general principle you can mod the 3000GT
as easily as the 300ZX. I also doubt you'll get as much
bang for your buck. How many cars can you put another
$1500 into and get 400HP? Also, with JWT making the
ECU, that's a very safe 400HP. You're not going to
blow up your 300ZX's engine because you're running 400 HP.

Styling is good on the VR4. About the only car that
comes close to the 300ZX, IMO. The third gen RX-7 runs
a decent third, and the Supra, well, the less said about
that's styling, the better.

As someone else said, early model-years had some
expensive maint problems. I've heard of back axles and
trannys failing. You'd probably want to get a 94 or newer
anyway, because those run 12 psi of boost right from the
factory.

The AWD (not 4WD - there's a difference) is nice, but
it's not an SUV. It's more stable than the 300ZX in the
snow, but it's not a jeep. I dunno which part of Romania
you're in, but if it snows a lot that would be a factor
in favor of the 3kgt.

You might want to run your questions by some of the
people at [ http://www.3kgt.com. ] I know there are some
other 3000GT sites out there too, but can't remember
what they are. Try Yahoo or Google.
