| Depending on the type of nickel plating used, this could be pretty bad for the life of the turbine wheel. I am sure everybody has seen how chrome plating can flake off in sharp pieces because it has such low ductility. Combine a fairly hard/brittle nickel (from a high pH bath) with a steel that has high rates of thermal expansion (such as the 300 series stainless steels), and that nickel coating will begin to crack and flake off nice sharp hard bits into the turbine wheel within no time. Some more info about the base metal used, and the type of nickel coating (electrolytic, electroless, etc) would be helpful. Can't say I have ever read of "governmental grade steel" in any of my materials books either, lol. :)
