Fuel cut isn't quite a complete fuel cut, that's the biggest problem with it. The cylinders do generate power, and I can't remember where it was said, but it was clearly stated that you wouldn't want to be hitting the rev limiter in the 350Z at all because of this. When the fuel gets interrupted, apparently it doesn't interrupt the entire pulse - some pulses get nixed partway through the injection sequence, which allows the cylinder to produce a good bit of high temperature force - enough to burn up valves or pistons. Turbocharger components have blistering temperatures to deal with and they are designed to handle these temperatures - there will be no ill effects on the turbine with an ignition cut system.
