they were "mule-ing' some new Jags and Alfa's at the time as well as a new Cosworth engine. This type of set-up was used to test a new block when the exhaust system had not been completed yet. The exhaust was on a seperate bench undergoing stress tests. Saw them test a Cosworth block with plastic headers this way... Also a Jag with the exhaust mounted horizontally across the grill.. great back pressure eh... So in dev circles, that is why you would do it...as far as with the ricer crowd... who knows?
