Message	i've had the opportunity to drive both the SMG and the manual on the new E46, and i never had a problem in traffic. if anything, the SMG changes gears a helluva lot faster than you could in the stick. I'd still get a manual over the sequential, but it definitely wasn't bad. The local BMW dealer (Patrick BMW) even sponsors an SCCA E46 racecar that uses the SMG, apparently the car does quite well. I wouldn't do that if I were you
