Yes. However the stock driveshaft is a two-piece and comes with a driveshaft support bearing in the middle. This helps to dampen any vibration in the driveshaft and lessens the chance that it will break. After market steel driveshafts are once piece.

Zero. I'm sure it's very uncommon.

- How often do steel driveshafts break? It really can't be that often, can it?

I have no idea, so I can't comment on that, I'm sure it's pretty uncommon in street applications, and relatively common on the dragstrip.

Just wondering, it seems like some scare tactic brewed up from the CF driveshaft people.

It's not a scare tactic, it's a distinct possibility - and it has happened before although it's not a common occurrence. The main advantage is the weight savings, vibration dampening and loss in drivetrain mass.
