Message and has seperate timer/triggers that handle the timing of the events such that the processor is not sitting, waiting for something to happen. If it were waiting for 1 event to occur before it could process any other, the system would over-run and other necessary events would be back-staged too long. It is continually running through its code and only the triggers are waiting for said events to occur.

The ECU has a resolution of 1/5RPM and its DAQ units have a sampling rate of around 500K samples/s, or 0.000002s

Break out a conzult and datalog your injector pulsewidth - you can see the ECU goes all the way down to the ten-thousandths of a millisecond in its own calculation.
