Message Everyone else here has already beat tto death the need for suspension and brakes, and I agree. I'm assuming you don't yet want to go all out track car, i.e. cages, seats, harnesses, etc.

I would like to remind you that HPDEs are not a competition, they are for fun and learning (since you want to know how much hp to "compete" with these cars). With that in mind...Stg 3 or 4 TT is more than enough power...Probably way too much for a novice. I can hang with Z06s and M5s down the straight...but the corners is where the race is won. My most recent track event, a stock 60's Mini Cooper was passing Evos and STis. Now that is impressive, and that is what you should strive for.
