Message If you deposit or cash a check (or deposit cash) for anything more than $9,999 USD, then you must fill out a currency transaction report (CTR) and these will remain on file for 3 years with the US Gov't. IF the check is fraudulent (which I bet it is by the looks of it) he's out nothing, possibly thefy by check (only if property was involved and there is proven intent to deprive you of the property...hard to prove), OR, you go to jail. I'd think before you do anything and go with your "gut" instinct (and all of ours) and not cash it.
