Message :Needless to say, this didn't go over too well with either the police or the general public. The result was tougher penalties for anyone caught street racing, such as impounding the vehicles of anyone suspected of racing, and a general crackdown by the police on people who modified their vehicle. There were horror stories on local message boards of people with modified cars who were continually hassled by the police. Unfortunate, but understandable.

After something tragic happens, lawmakers often rush to pass a law. The problem is that it often isn't constitutional. So the law will exist for a while until someone actually fights it, at which time the law is struck down.

So yes, laws meant to prevent street racing will quickly be passed after something bad happens, but it doesn't mean that the law is soundly written. The problem is that most street racers are young kids who take it up the ass instead of fighting the charges. A good lawyer would have a field day with these laws.

A couple of other kneww jerk reaction laws are the post 9/11 laws. These won't stand the test of time. The prisoners in Cuba will eventually be freed, and the Patriot Act will be torn apart. It's only a matter of time.
