Clifford spends triple the amt of money Viper does on research. Clifford still IS the premier auto security manufacturer. :about 3 months, depending on how much you use the remote. The remores use aaa battery. Clifford and viper all have amlified antennas, anyone else is not worth mentioning. Range is line of sight. Best range can be obtained by mounting antenna behind rear view mirror on glass. With all that said I love mine. I have 2 of the two way transponer systems. Ones on my Z and the other on my Lexus. Oh, the only thing that does SUCK, you only get one remote and new remotes are about $150. So if one breaks your out $150
