I've had some car trouble the last couple of weeks which forced me to get a rental. And while I had the rental car someone reported that I was involved in a hit and run. This is not true, since I was in class at the time of the reported accident. Now, from the police officer I found out that the car that was hit had "minimal to no damage". When I explained I couldn't have been involved he said there was nothing he could do and the report had been filed, I would have to take my case to court. I am not worried about court since I am innocent, except for the fact that I don't want to shell out lots of money for an attorney, fees, etc. Does anyone know the law as it pertains to this case, will it go to court if the person hit doesn't press charges ? The officer stated that as of now I was not being "charged" with anything, but I am not clear whether that means I still must go to court. Thanks for any help you can give me in this crazy headache.
