swaybar. - The car was a 92 LX hatchback with ~128,000 miles. Bone stock on BFG 245/15's I was running 14.2 and after the K&N, Shortbelt, and sportsman's I was able to get it into the 13.70's. I upgraded the exhaust (2 chamber flowmasters and no cats), installed 3.73 gears, and southside lift bars and ran 13.40's. I'm not sure about your friend's cars, but those times aren't exactly phenomenal. My buddy bought his wife an 84 5.0 for $800 and it ran 14.4s all day long. It was so consistent that she won the bracket races as well as $1000 her first time out (not to mention getting into the local paper being a pretty female driver.. ;) )
