| than a 2.0 at best on an automatic. The reason being that you need to build boost by laying into the throttle and resting on the limit of the torque converter. With a stock converter on the auto transmission, your tires will start to spin before you get enough boost to get a successful launch. And if you modulate it to keep it under the RPM that it will spin at, you'll likely bog off the line. It's quite tough to do any better with street tires as it sounds like you're doing it right. What you might want to try is timing it just right to do a different kind of launch. Basically have it at 1500 RPM while staging and waiting for the first light and when the first light flips on, mash the gas. By the time the RPM rises and builds a bit of boost, you should hit the green and then be able to let go just as the tires break loose and chirp a little. It's a very tough balance to get and you'll likely spin a few times but eventually you'll find that sweet spot where you can just mash it and time it just right. Also, if you aren't using your e-brake while power-braking, it's time to learn. A trick I use is to tape the button down on it so that I can hold it up and release it quickly without having to depress the button. In a nutshell 1: Stage and hold at 1500rpms 2: Foot hard on brake and holding ebrake up 3: First yellow trips, mash gas 4: Just before the green hits, drop the ebrake and release the brake pedal 5: You might just get a 2.0 or a 1.9 if you're lucky.
