didn't study and try to memorize the track BEFORE I got there. I don't know about your course, but I found the seventeen turns at Sebring a little hard to remember at first. Reviewing a film of the track, "mental imaging" the course or just studying a map of all the turns would've gotten me up to speed a lot sooner. A support crew is a big help. Make sure you have ready access to fuel, even if it means bringing your own. You won't believe how fast you can burn through a tank at race speeds. Bring oil. Bring tools. Change your oil when your done. Make sure your brake pads are nice and fresh. Get some professional instruction if available. If you lose control, push the clutch and brake in together and pray you don't hit anything. There's more experienced peeps here that can prob offer more. Have fun.
