I asked this very same question of Greg Dupree when I had my car worked on at Specialty-Z recently. I too was looking for a "clean" TT, but soon found that they are ridiculously hard to find. So like you, I stumbled on to a 1995 NA in really good condition, with low mileage, one previous owner, originally a lease, so I grabbed it. My thinking... "Better to have a nice, clean NA, than NO Z AT ALL!" I wasn't about to lay down my hard-earned cash for a TT that some non-enthusiast beat to Hell. Though my situation made the search much harder, in that I wanted a 94+ (passenger-side airbag a MUST for me). But I digress... As I was paying the bill at Specialty-Z, and talking with Greg about the work they did to my baby, I threw out the NA > TT conversion idea and his exact words were "To do it right, by a shop (not DIY), you're easily looking at $8000 - $10,000. For that money, you can find a really nice 90 - 94 TT and keep them BOTH. And if you're willing to spend a little more, a 95 - 96." 90PearlYellowTT has it right on the money (and this is exactly what I plan to do). Enjoy the NA, keep it in pristine condition and save the extra cash for the "perfect" TT that you're sure to find if you're willing to be patient with the search. Like I told a fellow NA'er who was bummin' about recently buying a NA vs. a TT, "There's no law that says we can only have ONE Fairlady in our driveway." In fact, pay off the NA and treat yourself to a TT as a graduation present. Good luck. :)
