Well I got some GMS 500 turbos, and started wondering about the quality of the actuators. I read on the GMS webpage that above 18-19psi, HKS actuators are pretty much required. Well I decided to check out the stock ones first. I also installed hardlines for the wastegates and boost controller solenoid, so I have a much faster reacting valve/wastegate. This theoretically eliminates the rubber hose flexing and causing a slower response time from when the BC solenoid opens and when the wastegate opens. Before I installed them I used rubber hose (about 2 feet long) and pressurized my air nozzle to 25psi. I sealed it up and pressurized the line, the wastegate opened, but kind of had a dead mushy action (seemed a little slower than I expected). So, then I installed these lines.

I finished them up, sealed them all with a 1" piece of 1/4" rubber braided 50psi fuel lines, and tried them out. Right away I noticed a difference. The wastegate snapped open immediatly, displaying a much cleaner and quicker actuation. This should allow me to tune my boost controller to a little higher settings, asking it to wait a little longer to actuate, and therfore building boost faster and keep flatter boost curve. In addition, I pressurized the air compressor hose to 20psi via an air regulator on my compressor, and attached it to the wastegates, I held it there for a good 5 minutes. Neiter the wastegates or my hose displayed any kind of leaking or giving up. I then turned it up to 25psi (verified with a guage on the end of the hose) and no leaking of either part was observed. In conclusion, I believe the factory wastegates are just fine, if not BETTER than HKS for up to 25psi because they allow anywhere from 6psi to 25psi +. I believe I could have run higher than 25psi, but did not want to risk it.
Adios!
