Basically they do add quite a bit of performance for the money involved, but some people feel that the risk of installing them isn't worth it. On a lot of cars, removing the torsion damper isn't such a great idea. The easiest explanation is to say that the manufacturer put it there for a reason. So on cars that aren't as tight to spec as the Z is it can lead to premature failures. However, there hasn't been any real proof of this causing problems on the Z motor and while that doesn't mean it's a 100% safe modification, many people have figured the gain is worth the small risk. Especially on stock/mild turbo cars. The guys with the big upgrades tend to leave it off just to be safe but most figure it's just the risk involved with ANY modification.
