Message Those dyno's are cool...but the one near me tends to give WAY inflated numbers. (Maybe its just how theirs is setup?) - Crim 09:33:56 09/21/04

Crim was talking about a Dynopack like we have not a Dynojet.

They either have the gear ratio wrong for the car, they are showing f/w horsepower(yes this dyno is capable of that), or they have the ramp time way too long which will make the numbers bigger.

I responded saying they(the company with the dynopack) probably had some setting set wrong. The dynopack is a tuning dyno...not a 3700 Lb drum for measuring peak HP. That is why it has setting that have to be set instead of just strapping the car down and mashing the throttle.

Gear ratio is independent. The box on the back of the dyno is calibrated per weight of the drum, you can't go in and change that. These things are not easy to trick.

Correct..that is why they are terrible for different weight cars. It does not load that car specific to the cars specs. It just measures how much Hp it takes to spin a 3700 Lb drum. Problem with that is a 2500 Lb Honda will never have to power 3700Lbs worth of inertia on the street or even at the track. That is also the reason people have problems setting a boost controller on a Dynojet roller. The inertia of the dynojet roller is no where close to the actual load seen on the street.

Dynojets, Mustang, and even Dynopacks can and have been fudged to make better numbers. It is as easy as messing with the temp. gauge for the dyno and then showing a higher corrected number then is really there.
