microwaves can not penetrate the metal; however, many tints do not have the metallized coating (usually Nickel). Also, a lot of people have rear tinted windows anyway, so it really doesn't make an impact with my 'technique' of having the radar on the front windshield versus the rear. Now, if you tint your entire front window, or hide the radar detector above the rearview mirror and its site is obstacled by the tint, then you are blanketing your radar protection for sure. Same reason you don't want it facing mirrored sunscreen strips or the windshield wipers (metal). SS
