Message Russell,

What exactly are you doing to the backplate to tighten up the clearance between the wheel and housing? AFAIK, wheel-to-housing clearance, once too large, cannot be corrected unless a new housing is affixed with less aggressive contouring. I am guessing that you are adding some sort of spacer in between the wheel and backplate to push the wheel out, which I suppose would push the wheel closer to the housing to tighten the clearance axially, but not laterally.

If you are removing the wheel to modify the backplate, are they getting rebalanced afterwards, and if so on what machine? I'm not sure how dual BB garretts are balanced, but they don't do too well on a VSR machine.

Also, what is the clearance between wheel and housing the way they come from Garrett (in thousandths of an inch), and what do you reduce it to after modifying?

Thanks...

Ryan
