Message 1. Some people enjoy the thrill of the "hunt." The fun is in researching, selecting, and installing the aftermarket parts. Once the car is finished, the thrill is gone, so they sell the car, buy another, and start over again. It's like building models, the fun is in the actual build.

2. The further away you get from stock, the less enjoyable the car may become. The car in stock form is amazingly well balanced, in terms of power, reliability, ride, and handling. Once you start to "upgrade" the car, you risk making the car less streetable (think upgraded turbos: more power, but also more lag), and thus less enjoyable to drive. Since it is no longer fun to drive, time to sell it.
