Message	of course if you add weight to a car it'll reduce your acceleration. But people put special emphasis on the weight of the wheels compared to weight anywhere else. Rotational mass of the wheels is not really a big thing like rotational mass of the crank pulley or the driveshaft because the power is already been transfered through the axel.
