| 3 areas you need to focus on before you start worrying abt horsepower: 1) Weight reduction- a 9 second car is hardly ever streetable (at least not pleasant to drive on the street), so you shouldn't have too much concern with creature comforts. Get rid of all AC components, power steering components, stereo components, and you have a start. Replace power driver seat with a lightweight racing seat. Ditch the passenger seat altogether. Lightweight battery. Get rid of most interior panels and insulation. Replace glass with plastic. Anything else you can think of that doesn't serve the purpose of going down the strip rediculously fast. 2) Suspension- you want to be able to have as much weight transfer to the rear wheels as possible. You're gonna have to do a lot of researching here. 3) Learn how to launch and when exactly to shift. This stuff is half science, half artform. Takes a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience. You need to know your engine's powerband and your gear ratios like the back of your hand. Doing the above is more than half the battle. Master the above and I seriously doubt you'll need 1000 hp, or even close to it. But as far as engine mods go, build the engine with forged pistons (I would recommend Endyne's 9.2:1 c/r pistons with improved quench zones, but I haven't heard how well they perform in the real world yet. They're pretty new). Get lightened con rods. Make sure all your bearings are in good shape. Get hotter cams (like JWT Wild) and better valve springs. lighten up the valvetrain in whatever way you can. Setup a water injection system and get a nitrous spool-up kit. Get nice intercoolers that can withstand high pressure, and durable intake piping as well. Ensure the healthiness of all your various hoses and fuel lines. On the subject of fuel, you might as well get an upgraded pump. Get an upgraded (lighter, if possible) radiator. Electric fans if you think you can set them up effectivly. Doolz or Twin POP, whatever tickles your fancy after you've researched them both. Then get TD05's or whatever Wagz had on his car, with Dupree inconel manifolds and downpipes. If you want it to be a stictly track-only car (you might as well, at this point) you can run open exhaust. HKS twin power ignition (or a damn good ground net) Then there's the electronics side...you're going to need a lot more than a cookie cutter ecu, so you're going to need somone to tune it, or learn how to do it yourself. You need to increase the redline to whatever the engine can handle with your lighter and stronger reciprocating internals. Then optimize your engine for high rpm power. That's the basic guideline. You're going to have to do a shitload of research on your own (or pay someone else a shitload of money to make a 9 sec car for you). OR you could buy an 87 IROC,rip everything out of it, stuff a 427 in it, cam it, port it, etc, and supercharge it. And then enjoy just driving your Z. Whatever floats your boat. Good luck with whatever it is you end up doing.
