From what I understand, the rotary engine has very few moving parts (absence of valve train, cams, etc.) b/c the rotor does all the work. with that in mind, they are very efficient for the size (1.3l I think). This also means more wear on the parts it does have, creating a basically throw away engine. They are pretty inexpensive to replace (mostly labor), but I would say to go w/a Z based on reliability. The Mazda is a nice looking car, but in my opinion, the Z is a much classier looking car. Stick w/the best! Hope this helps.
