Message RX-7

First and foremost, the RX-7 is the truest sports car in my mind. Nimble, fast, 2 doors, 2 seats, great balance, etc. Not to mention they look spectacular and have a rarity about them.

Why I didn't choose it: A combination of factors. For one, I'm a big guy and the cars are a bit tight to drive all day long. Aside from that, I put lots of miles on my cars and while an RX-7 can last a good amount of time with proper cooling, fuel and care, it still can't even hold a candle to a 300ZX or Supra. I don't want a car I have to walk on eggshells with especially in hot SoCal with our 91 octane swill.

Supra

As for the Supra, it is indeed a great car. Great engine, though not as bulletproof as the online community would like you to believe, but surely a great design combined with Toyota quality. Fun to drive, easy to mod.

Why I didn't choose it: The main reason was the looks. As we all know, looks are subjective and while there are some sweet Supras out there, I didn't like the idea of having to spend $10K to make the car look the way I wanted it on top of the already inflated cost of the car due to the rarity. This was before F&F and even then good condition Supras were nearly twice the cost of an EQUAL condition Z car. You'll surely save money on modding it since you wont need two of everything like the Z, but having to pay $15k-$20k more for a similar condition car is against everything I stand for. Going fast is NOT cheap, this much I know, but I have no desire to drive an 800RWHP monster that is only fun on the freeway let alone a 1000RWHP dyno queen. And since that's the main area that the Supras excel in, it wasn't in the cards for me. Since all I wanted was an 11-second street car that could be driven hard all year round, I had no need for a Supra. Not to mention that nowadays everyone and their mom rides Supra owner's jocks and as much as I like a compliment on my Z here and there, it'd get tiring having every jackass try to race me and expect me to have a big single. I like my sleeper Z :)

300ZX

As far as I'm concerned, the Z isn't really "perfect" at anything but it does very well in almost every category under the sun. As such, it doesn't stand out all by itself compared to the others. Some people might get off on the fact that just owning a Supra will get "oohs and ahhs" at a dinner table conversation, but I could give a shit. If you ask 100 random people what is special about the Z, most will simply tell you it looks good and not much more. I like that. I also like to think of it as the closest to a "Total Package" car that you can find, with turbos(!), for under $50k. WAY under I might add. It may not be the quickest car around a road course or the quickest down the strip, but it fares quite well at both with some skill and modification. Originally, I bought my first Z solely on looks. When you're 18, that tends to be a very big factor. Since then I've come to cherish it because it meets my needs EXACTLY. I bought my Z for $12k with a brand new motor and brand new turbos (no rebuilds). The paint was flawless, the compression was at the top of spec and the interior was a sight to be seen.

Since then I've spent some coin on performance, but nothing exorbitant. Maybe $3k on the high side including suspension, cooling, weight saving equipment and exhaust/boost goods. For that ~$15k all I have to show for it is:

-a car with around ~450bhp
-a car that I can drive 30,000 miles a year and beat the crap out of in the SoCal heat
-a car that is ultra comfortable
-a car that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor despite being 15 years old

Given what I wanted in a car, this was the best investment I could have made. I don't regret it for one second and I never will.
