We have an 89 Maxima SE A/T also. It was pretty much flawless up til about 120,000-130,000 miles or so. (The car has 140,000 now). The tranny died and has been rebuilt. Other than that, everything else has been minor. The front power windows tend to be very slow at closing or don't close at all without you helping by pushing it up. And the Bose stereo is pretty much dead. But those are all minor things. It probably needs new springs and shocks now.. it feels sportier though. hehe.. but I don't recall them ever being changed yet. Engine is as strong as I remember it when we bought it new. It got louder but that's about it. I'd say it's a good daily driver. Plenty of room inside, decent engine when you consider the car's class and the fact that it came out over 10 years ago. If I were you I'd try and get a newer model (maybe 94), I think they put in a stronger engine 190 HP, I believe, instead of 160 HP.
