I am involved in building sand and off road cars. We just recently acquired some imported Japanese Nissan V6, 24 valve, quad cam, turbo charged engines. They are marked VG30DET. First, where can I get an engine manual? Second, on the back side of the intake cams there are two solenoids that when activated, change the intake valve timing. At what RPM should these be triggered? Third, any other information would be great, such as what should the rev limit be set to and what was stock boost set at?
While those engines were the foundation for the (300ZX) Z32 VG30DETT, they were used a lot in overseas models, such as the Cedric, Gloria, Cima, and Leopard chassis Y31, Y32, and Y33. I am not sure where to locate an engine manual, at least an English version, although the VG30DETT manual should be helpful for some information. The VTC high rpm switch point should be set to around 5800 rpm but if you're going with a lot of boost, set it lower. The rev limit is 7000 rpm. Stock boost depends on which type of turbo is equipped on the engine. The VG30DET's had a T3 style turbo known as a Nissan "N1" type. It was a 4 bolt with a T3 style exhaust inlet flange. The earlier models were ceramic turbines running about 7.5 psi but the later models were also outfitted with bigger intercoolers and are ball bearing with ceramic turbines and plastic wheels. They ran 11.5 psi stock.
