they will just go through the person and through walls and possibily hit an innocent bystander like your neighbor next door. Use good quality hollow points which expand and transfer energy to the intruder to knock them down. I use Corbon 9mm hollow points which has velocity of the 9mmn approaching 357 magnum loads. $12 for box of 20 rounds, too expensive to practiced with. FMJ bullets are good for the range for practice and much cheaper $11 for box of 100 of 9mm at Walmart.
The .45 caliber is the only bullet in FMJ you can use for self defense because the bullet is big and slow .
You can use the old stand by, 12 guage pump shotgun loaded with bird shot. Racking the slide of a pump shot makes that familier internatinally recognised sound for " get the fuck out" which is enough to scare most intruders away. If they don't run after hearing the slide of a 12 guage, they deserve to get shot.
