Message But not a few years down the road. The first D1 event held in Irwindale sold more tickets than any event ever held there. Don't think this isn't being noticed.

I watched an interview with an owner of quite a few tracks. he was asked what he thought about drifting. He said he thought it would be the next big thing. He said that NASCAR was big now but that there weren't that many new, young fans coming into the sport. If you follow how big the events are getting here in SoCal, you'd know that the tracks are coming around. We have events sometimes as often as 3 times a month.

I agree, that at this point, NASCAR won't be interrupted for anything. I look at it this way. Any other motor sport that can become popular is cutting away at NASCAR's popularity.

Like you I would rather have pretty much any motorsport other than NASCAR. Hell, I'd like most of them more than drifting.

My biggest fear in all of this is how badly drifting is being exploited by companies. I don't have a problem with people making money on it. But this is a whole different thing. Its growing by leaps and bounds every month. Unfortunately, that means its going to be marketed the same way that 'import' drag racing is. Its the 'Bad Ass' thing to do. Most of the guys at the events are just normal guys that have a lot of talent and are just trying to have fun.

The arrogance of most of the people who don't like it is kinda disappointing as well. Just because its not what you like, doesn't mean its bad. I don't like NASCAR, but I understand why peopld like it. You would be amazed by how much shit gets slung by 'real' racers. "Its like figure skating". Maybe somewhere along the line, we all forgot why we got into this stuff. For fun. I don't really think that drag racing is all that much fun. Doesn't mean I have a problem with other people doing it. We're all just trying to have fun. Why does it always have to be about who's sport is better?
