:8 lights over head (16 four foot bulbs).
:2 lights on the side walls (4 four foot bulbs).
:It's pitch black outside, but is brighter in the garage then when the sun is out. (sorry for the messy garage)

:do it right, or don't do it...Bah...I just have one low pressure metal halide lamp taken from a gymnasium which emmits ~6400lm of light- more than enough light for a 3 car garage, more efficient than fluorescent lighting and the lamp and ballast lasts about 20,000 burning hours. The only bad thing is that it takes about a minute before it fully lights up.
