Valves almost always are bent when the t-belt snaps. So those, for sure, need to be replaced. Depending on the engine speed at the time the belt snapped, the pistons could also be damaged badly. If it broke at idle, then the pistons are probably ok. If it is just bent valves, then all you need are new heads. Back when I bent my valves, I got some rebuilt heads from Z1 for about $450. Labor will be pretty expensive, but overall replacing heads will be cheaper than the whole engine. And if the lower end of your engine is good (bearings good, piston rings good, etc) then replacing only the heads is definetly the way to go. If the pistons were damaged badly, then I would suggest rebuilding the whole engine, or buying a used one in good shape. In that scenario, if you have the extra $$$, which shouldn't be too much more, I'd go with rebuilding your existing engine, since you will have a better idea of what you're getting than with an altogether different motor.
