the alternator is charger it uses a regulator to charge the battery. When your car is running it still gets its power from the battery and the alternator keeps charging the battery. Yes you can remove your battery from your car while it is running and the alternator will continue to drive your 12 volts access. but that isnt what it is designed to do. I will assume the battery you put in will be fine as Greg obviously did some research. Do you know what the resserve time/capacity is on the battery? CCA doesnt really mean anything other then cranking amps for turning the car over. reserve time/capacity is the big thing.
